Aron Canet pushes through the Argentina GP to secure fourth, just shy of the podium. His Fantic Racing Lino Sonego teammate Barry gains three positions from the grid and narrowly misses out on the Top 10.
Aron Canet arrived in Argentina with confidence, fueled by excellent test results and a strong opening race in Thailand. However, during the Practice session, an unexpected incident nearly compromised his weekend. A crash at the end of the session resulted in a heavy blow to his shoulder, which had already been affected by a fall during testing in Jerez. A check to the medical center ruled out serious injuries, allowing Aron to continue his weekend, though not without difficulties.
The pain in his shoulder was intense, but his determination was even stronger. The Spanish rider qualified tenth and gave everything he had in the race. He got off to a strong start and, within just a few corners, was already closing in on the Top 5. Thanks to some aggressive overtakes, he reached podium contention after only eight laps. He managed his pace well in the middle part of the race, but the pain kept increasing. He fought like a warrior to bring the bike to the finish line, securing fourth place, just four-tenths off the podium.
Riding a Moto2 bike at over 300 km/h with constant direction changes is physically demanding even in peak condition, and his exhaustion upon returning to the box was a clear sign of the struggle he endured. The championship is long, and last season’s outcome proved how crucial it is to collect as many points as possible in every race—today, Canet once again succeeded in doing so.
He will now have time to rest before the Austin round, one of his all-time favorite tracks.
Barry Baltus proved in Argentina that he can fight for the top positions. Competitive in every session, two small mistakes in his time attack prevented him from maximizing his qualifying result, and he started from P15. In the race, he showed solid pace and recovered three positions, finishing in P12. It was an important weekend of growth for him, which will surely be valuable in two weeks' time in Texas.
Aron Canet:
“A tough race with a lot of pain, I had to bring out my winning and fighting spirit. I suffered a lot in my forearms, trapezius muscles, and left shoulder. We take away the strength we showed and want more in Austin.”
Barry Baltus:
“For sure I’m not happy about the result of the race. We saw again that the ritym was there and we’re feeling strong during all the weekend, we did a great job, the pace was strong. It was possible to fight for the top5, I miss some seconds try to pass other riders. The team worked really well we fought every session for the top positions.”
Roberto Locatelli, Fantic Racing Lino Sonego Team Manager:
“Great race by Canet. Friday’s crash was very hard, and he felt a lot of pain in his shoulder, but he proved to be tough. The team worked well despite the difficulties. He fought for the podium, and we must stay focused on always securing important points like today. Unfortunately, Baltus had some bad luck at the start, slipping a bit on the grid. From P22, he made a strong comeback and had a great race, earning valuable points for the Team standings, where we are currently in second place.”
